Anaconda Hot Springs runs tepid, whatever the name says, a few degrees under warm bathwater. It is in Deer Lodge County, Montana, 8.5 miles from Anaconda. The only chemistry on file is a dissolved solids figure from 1997. Nothing is recorded about ownership, and access is blank too. There is a photo.

Location

You park and walk a few hundred feet; no road name is on file. The spring sits high in a valley where about seven feet of snow piles up each winter, and precipitation over the year is moderate. High Rye Cabin, the nearest camping we have, is roughly nine miles off.

The listed months fall in winter. With that much snow the short walk could mean postholing, and no one has noted plowing. Access and ownership are unknown. The 1997 sample gave only a dissolved solids number, with no pH and no breakdown of minerals. No fee figure exists in the record.

Terrain

USGS hasn't flown a detailed laser scan here yet, so this view comes from aerial photos and older elevation data.

Heat Below
77 milliwatts per square meter of heat flow

That's close to the US average of 65. It's higher than at 12% of the springs on this site.

Heat flow measures the warmth working its way up through the ground from deep inside the earth. Where it runs high, rain and snowmelt that seep down through cracks in the rock come back up hot.

Mile-High Advisory 5,760 ft

Anaconda Hot Springs sits at 5,760 feet above sea level, way above the mile-high mark. You may not feel the altitude strongly, but hot water still dehydrates you faster at elevation. UV is about 23% stronger than at sea level, so bring sunscreen and drink more water than you normally would.
