Bradfield Canal Hot Springs
The orange dot marks the spring, in a frame about three quarters of a mile wide.
Hot water and a very long way from town. Bradfield Canal Hot Springs lies in Tongass National Forest within Ketchikan Gateway Borough, sixty-some miles from Ketchikan. Open, per the Forest Service. Temperature-wise it is hot, above what you can sit in untouched, though short of scalding. No chemistry has been recorded.
Seven-plus miles lie between it and a road that carries no name on file, so count on a backcountry approach. It sits a few hundred feet above sea level in country that gets over forty-five feet of snow in a year, with the rain in between adding up to more than eleven feet. Harding River cabin is the closest listed overnight, thirteen and a half miles distant.
Go between December and February if you follow the record's scoring for best months. Expect to cool the water before a soak. Harding River cabin is a long haul away, so do not count on it as a base. Fees: none recorded. No campground is closer than that cabin.
USGS hasn't flown a detailed laser scan here yet, so this view comes from aerial photos and older elevation data.
