Twin Lakes Hot Springs
The orange dot marks the spring, in a frame about three quarters of a mile wide.
Twin Lakes Hot Springs sits at tide level in the Tongass National Forest, about twenty five miles out of Wrangell, Alaska. Access is listed as open. No temperature has ever been entered for it, so the name is the only hint of heat on file, and nobody should build a trip around a name. What the record does show is the ground it sits on, Forest Service land, and a climate that is wet by almost any measure.
This is backcountry. The closest road of any kind ends a bit over five miles away and carries no name on file. The spring is at sea level, which in this corner of Alaska means coast and rain. Precipitation runs well over a hundred inches a year, and the snow total is enormous, more than thirty feet in an average winter, with a yearly mean temperature in the low forties. Mount Rynda Cabin is the nearest camp shown, under two miles off.
There are no best months on file, and given the snowfall the shoulder seasons will be buried. Reaching the spring means covering five miles with no road help. Mount Rynda Cabin is the one overnight option listed. Nothing is known about fees, and nothing about the water itself, so do not expect a soak until someone confirms one exists.
USGS hasn't flown a detailed laser scan here yet, so this view comes from aerial photos and older elevation data.
