Johnson Warm Spring
A mile and a half outside Monroe in Sevier County, Johnson Warm Spring lives up to the middle word of its name. The water is warm, nowhere near what most people want out of a soak. USGS has it in the thermal inventory and sampled it once, back in 1967. Land ownership has never been pinned down, and the same goes for access.
Getting there means a half-mile walk from the nearest road, which goes unnamed on file. The spring sits near 6,000 feet on the higher edge of the Sevier Valley, where winter snowfall is heavy enough to matter, well over four feet in a typical year. Summers are dry.
The record names the winter months, though a half-mile approach through snow is a different proposition from a summer stroll. Adelaide Campground, roughly 17 miles away, is the nearest camping on file. Nothing is recorded about who owns the ground, so do not assume you can walk in. The sampled temperature is nearly sixty years old.
