Las Vegas Springs is a USGS thermal record in Clark County, six miles out of downtown Las Vegas. The water is warm the way a swimming pool in May is warm, nowhere near hot. Nothing on file states if the public can get to the water, and no land manager is named. That close to a major city, the gap matters a great deal.

Location

Two hundred feet or so separate the spring from the nearest road. The ground here is the floor of the Las Vegas Valley, a little above two thousand feet, where five inches of rain makes a normal year and snow seldom sticks. Summers are hot. Winters stay mild. No designation or land unit is attached to the record.

Skip summer. The cool months, December into February, are the only time water this mild feels like a reward in this valley. Red Rock Canyon Campground is about eleven miles away if you want to camp. Access and ownership are both blank in the record. Confirm both before you make the trip.

Terrain

Aircraft with laser scanners measured this ground to within inches. The scan strips out trees and buildings, leaving the bare shape of the land around Las Vegas Springs.

Heat Below
108 milliwatts per square meter of heat flow

That's about 1½ times the US average of 65. It's higher than at 57% of the springs on this site.

Heat flow measures the warmth working its way up through the ground from deep inside the earth. Where it runs high, rain and snowmelt that seep down through cracks in the rock come back up hot.
